This report was prepared by Tony Knowles and Erik Middelink of SME Cambodia contracted by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Government of Samoa. The proposed project is intended to demonstrate biomass gasification technology. The project will inform policy makers, potential private sector investors and the general public regarding the role that biomass-fueled electricity generation systems could play in the Samoa energy economy and in reducing atmospheric emission of green-houses gasses (GHG).
This report was prepared by Charles Feinstein, Wendy Hughes and Tendai Gregan of the World Bank. Energy is a fundamental building block for the Kingdom in its social and economic development and in enhancing the livelihood and well-being of all Tongans. In order to assist discussions among Pacific Island states and development partners, this brief outlines how the economic vulnerability of island nations to increasing oil prices and oil price volatility can be mitigated by a “Whole-of-Sector” energy development approach that seeks to balance:
This report was prepared by the Pacific Power Association for the U.S Department of Interior. The purpose of this document is to report on the energy consumption for seven (7) U.S.-affiliated Insular Areas.
This report was prepared by the UNDP. The report highlights that access to affordable and sustainable sources of energy has strong linkages with the reduction of poverty/hardship, i.e. if poverty/hardship reduction is an objective, then the provision of energy is an essential prerequisite. In the PICs, where poverty/hardship is often viewed as the lack of access to basic services, opportunities and adequate resources, the case for energy provisioning and access is particularly strong. Provision of essential social services such as health and primary education require energy services.

This report was prepared by Ivan Krishna, EDD, SPC. The project “Productive Utilization of Renewable Energy in the Tourism Sector of the Forum’s Small Island States in the North” or PURE SIS North Tour for short is co-funded by the Pacific Islands Greenhouse Gas Abatement through Renewable Energy Project (PIGGAREP) from SPREP and the Pacific Islands Development Cooperation Fund (PIDCF) from PIF to promote the productive utilization of feasible renewable energy technologies in the tourism sector of the northern SIS so as to promote fossil fuel free eco-tourism and sustainable livel
This report is prepared by International Institute for Energy Conservation - Asia (IIEC Asia) for the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP). The main objective of this technical analysis was to assess the characteristics of major appliance and lighting products and markets in 17 Pacific Island Countries and Territories (PICTs), in order to support government decision-making on the most suitable Standards & Labelling (S&L) strategy for each PICT.
This report was prepared by the Asian Development Bank. This report was prepared as part of the output of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) regional technical assistance project (TA 6477 REG); Preparaing a Response in the Pacific to High Prices, which was jointly funded by the ADB, the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID), and the New Zealand's International Aid and Development Agency (NZAID).
This report was prepared by Mackay Miller, Phil Voss, Adam Warren, Ian Baring-Gould and Misty Conrad. Island communities worldwide face great challenges in achieving reliable, affordable, and secure energy for power and transportation needs. In spite of often having a relative abundance of renewable energy resources, most island countries remain highly dependent on imported fossil fuels to meet their energy needs. Due to the remoteness and relatively small size of most islands, imported fuel is typically very expensive.
