National Greenhouse Gas Abatement Strategy 2008-2018

This report was prepared by Ministry of Natural Resources & environment. Climate change is an issue of major concern to the future economic, social and environmental wellbeing of all Samoans. Initially adaptation was seen as the main priority of national efforts on climate change leading to the Cabinet approval in 2005 of the National Adaptation Programme of Action and its current implementation. In recent years, however, and in spite of Samoa's contribution to global warming being very small, there is growing agreement that climate change mitigation is everyone's responsibility.

Samoa's 400kWp Solar Project

This report was prepared by Julia McDonald, Joe Wookyeung and Phillippe McCracken. In recent years there has been increasingly compelling evidence that anthropogenic climate change not only threatens the biophysical environment but it also increases potential vulnerabilities of the people and the socio-economic structures and activities. Like many pacific island states, Samoa is highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change and as a non-Annex 1 country is taking steps toward implementing the agreed objectives of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

National Consultant Report on Promotion of Environmentally Sustainable Transportation in the Pacific- Report on Samoa

This report was prepared by the South Pacific Geoscience Commission and focused on Samoa. Efficient and effective energy use in the transport sector is a measure of a country’s attainment of sustainable development. Samoa is totally dependent on imported fossil fuels for transport. This reliance on fossil fuels is likely to increase. This country report for Samoa is a ‘snapshot’ of the current situation regarding the transport sector.
