Report highlights the technical description, project proponents and proposal for the PV hybrid mini-grid for Chevalier College in Abemama Atoll in Kiribati. This was a pilot project for duplication at outer island schools and the Pacific region as a whole. Report was funded by the Kiribati - Italy Cooperation Programme.

Sustainable Energy Industry Development Project - Environment and Social Management Framework

The Sustainable Energy Industry Development Project (SEIDP) will be implemented by the Pacific Power Assocition and will provide technical assistance to increase data availability and capacity in Pacific Island power utilities for renewable energy. This Environment and Social Management Framework (ESMF) sets out the principles and procedures for managing the environment and social aspects of the project. The framework is to guide the PPA and its consultants on how to screen the activities and manage any issues during project implementation.

Pacific island countries and territories explore pathways to transform energy systems

In an ongoing effort to solve the region’s significant energy challenges, Pacific Island countries and territories and development partners are meeting this week (July 21 to 23 Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time (HST)) in Honolulu to share experiences on increasing the use of renewable energy. Key speakers will discuss comprehensive approaches to energy sector transformation, including the importance of enabling legal and regulatory frameworks, capacity building, and financing. The workshop will examine a number of Pacific case studies, such as different clean energy initiatives in Hawai’i.

Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) Renewables Readiness Assessment (RRA) 2015

Renewables Readiness Assessment of the Marshall Islands produced by IRENA.The RRA study identified challenges to be addressed to scale up renewable energy in RMI. Recommended actions communicated to RMI Government and development partners. This recommended actions were converted into practical projects and 5 activities have been drafted. This activities are intended to be reviewed by the RMI MRD Energy Planning Division and using any necessary external support develop the project concepts into full project proposals to be submitted to development partners for funding.

This rapid assessment and gap analysis report outlines the current situation in Fiji with regards to the SE4ALL goals and the challenges and opportunities for achieving this goals.
