Fiji

Fiji is a tropical archipelago located between Melanesia and Polynesia. The Fiji islands are situated 3,000 km east of Australia in the Pacific Ocean at 16-20°S latitude and 178°E-178°W longitude. Fiji comprises of over 300 named islands, which take up an ocean area of some 650,000 km² and a total land area of 18,274 km2 (Evenhius & Bickel, 2005). There are two large islands, Viti Levu (10,388 km²) and Vanua Levu (5,535 km²), two mid-sized islands, Taveuni (434km²) and Kadavu (408km²), and many smaller islands, 97 of which are inhabited (Parham, 1972; Evenhius & Bickel, 2005).

The  target  is  for the renewable energy share in electricity generation to approach 100% by 2030 from around 60% in 2013. In addition an indicative reduction of 10% CO2 emissions for energy efficiency improvements economy-wide will be sought. These measures will reduce CO2 emissions in the energy sector by around 30% from BAU by 2030

Fiji submitted their Intended nationally determined contributions (INDC) to the UNFCCC Secretariat on the 5th of November 2015.

Fiji RRA report provides overview of Fijis energy sector and renewable energy, enabling environment for renewable energy development, opportunities for deployment of RE and recommendations. Report examines the general enabling environment for increase RE uptake in Fiji i.e.

This rapid assessment and gap analysis report outlines the current situation in Fiji with regards to the SE4ALL goals and the challenges and opportunities for achieving this goals. Report has attachments on pysical extension of FEA grid in Viti Levu, hydro potential in the main island, geothermal potential in the main islands and supply and demand model SE4ALL Targets.

KEMA was contracted by the Pacific Power Association (PPA) to conduct an energy efficiency study titled: “Quantification of Energy Efficiency in the Utilities in South Pacific Utilities” for 10 Southern Pacific island utilities. Attached in this record are 2 reports:
