Attempted recovery of waverider mooring, Kadavu, Fiji

Assesment of energy potential from marine renewable sources such as OTEC waves and lagoon currents : Proposed in the 2nd Session and intiated in the 11th Session. The Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) is being installed in Nauru. In order to assess the renewable energy potential of the offshore areas of Fiji, baseline data is needed to assist in the evaluation of those sites. Objective: To produce baseline data on the inshore waters in Fiji area to assist investigations into the use of various alternative sea water energies as resources of power.

Photovoltaics for telecommunications - a demonstration of solar powered backup system, July 2001

Joint Evaluation of the Naroi Photovoltaics Project : The Naroi Solar PV Project is one of the first PV projects in Fiji to use Cash Power Meters. It was therefore
considered beneficial that following a training attachment and visit to the site by Tonga EPU (Talanoa) and
SOPAC Energy Unit staff that a report on the findings of the visit be recorded and published. The primary objective of this is to evaluate the Naroi (Fiji) solar PV Project.

Baseline studies to Assist in Developing the use of Ocean Energy : It was proposed in the 13th Session and at time of reporting was yet to be initiated, work was to commence in 1986. It was recommended that existing data and situation with regards to ocean energy be reviewed and areas and schemes for development be identified. All activities was to be coordinated with SPREP.

Coconut oil as a biofuel in Pacific Islands - challenges and opportunities

This paper was written by Jan Cloin of the SOPAC Energy Unit. The objective of this paper is to seek economic opportunities in the Pacific for the
use of environmentally friendly coconut oil to replace diesel in compression
engines. This will be done through collecting experience throughout the region
and analysing results in a Pacific context.
