Tonga technical report, hydrodynamic model of Fanga'uta lagoon: water circulation and applications, October 2008

Feasibility of Hydroelectric Power from Tides at Fanga'uta Lagoon Entrance : The objectives are to investigate the feasibility of generating hydroelectric power using
the tidal flow in and out of Fanga'uta Lagoon and to prepare a plan identifying steps which need to be taken to proceed with this development. In its 1995 Work Program, SOPAC pledged that it would consult with Norwegian institutions on possible future, support for its work in this area and then develop proposals as appropriate.

Relocation of waverider anchor offshore Makeke, Tongatapu, Kingdom of Tonga, 17 September 1989

Investigation of Oceanographic Conditions at Tongatapu Blowholes for Assessment Studies of Power Generation from Wave Energy : Project objectives are to:
(1) produce baseline data of the inshore waters of the southern coast of Tongatapu &
(2) assist investigations into the use of wave energy at the blowholes as a source of power.

In 1984, a suitable site was found to install wave recording instruments.

Policy and Technical Advice : Provide policy advice and training in appraisal techniques and financial/economic analysis for proposed projects. Monitor, analyse and distribute information on economic and technical performance of a range of energy supply technologies used in the region. Provide in-country follow-up training and advice on the national energy supply/demand databases and data collection as required.

The national energy policy of the Federated States of Micronesia [DRAFT]

National Energy and Policy Development_FSM : The World Bank Pacific Regional Energy Assessment report of 1992 identified the absence of comprehensive national energy sector policies as one of the major obstacles to the effective management and planning of the national energy sectors. In a place like FSM where the individual states are autonomous, national policies are critical to ensure consistency and concerted efforts are directed towards common national objectives. In 2000 SOPAC provided assistance in the development of a draft Energy Policy and plan.

Energy Audits - UN offices in Samoa : Traditionally energy consumption in the Pacific islands is relatively high and often little care is given to energy efficiency and conservation. As the price of electricity increase the need to reduce consumption or electricity (energy) becomes more important and necessary. The UN offices in Samoa obviously realise that there are opportunities for saving on electricity bills and therefore consider having the UN Offices audited and recommendations made on the likely approach to be take to save energy.
