December 12, 2018: RCREEE and The Global Women´s Network for the Energy Transition signed a new MOU to provide a framework for the advancement of gender equality and empower women in the clean energy sector.
The MOU recognizes the positive impact of stronger women engagement in the clean energy sector and the need of equal participation of women for the adequate development of the clean energy sector and for the energy transition.
Further, it highlights the role of women as agents of change in society, and their contribution to human development, sustainable development, and fighting of climate change.
Over the past years many international intiatives were launched to addres the matter of gender equality with the SDG5 (achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls) and energy supply with the SDG7 (ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all). Specially that, many studies have presented strong evidence on the role of women in ending energy poverty which is vitial in the MENA region.
