The SADC Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency,SACREEE, the East African Centre of Excellence for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, EACREEE, the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) and COMESA organized a Workshop and Partner Meeting on Energy Efficient Lighting and Appliances. The workshop took place within the framework of the official launch of SACREEE and aimed at presenting ongoing initiatives on the regional and national level and to discuss synergies and strengthen partnerships among the initiatives. It also featured a special session on Minimum Energy Performance Standards and Test Laboratories, Compliance Certification and Market Surveillance.
Objectives of the Workshop and partner meeting
- Presentation and discussion on the Sida funded EELA project implemented in SADC and EAC
- Presentation of the COMESA initiative on Sustainable Regional Energy Market in the Eastern Africa-Southern Africa-Indian Ocean (EA-SA-IO) (ESREM)
- Information by MS on national initiatives and possible cooperation with the regional projects

Participants of the workshop included the Directors for Energy, regulators and utilities of the SADC, EAC and COMESA Member States as well as the regional organisations, international experts and developing partners.
