Cairo, Egypt: Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Arab Program for Sustainable Energy Youth™ (APSEY) continues to welcome young professionals and future energy leaders from the Arab region while applying required measures. In its 14th round, RCREEE hosts 7 interns from Egypt, Yemen, Palestine, Sudan, Morocco and Jordan.
Upon their arrival, APSEY interns received a number of training sessions from RCREEE experts during their orientation week. The presentations included topics related to RCREEE strategies, partners, and an introduction to RCREEE wide portfolio of projects in sustainable energy fields.
During their 6-month internship, interns will deepen their understanding of renewable energy and energy efficiency domains. They will also contribute to the promotion of RE & EE solutions in the Arab region through participating at RCREEE regional and country based projects. Besides, interns will receive a number of training courses customized to further sharpen their technical and soft skills.
“Through APSEY™ program, RCREEE is honored to have an opportunity to address the recognized need to increase youth participation specially in leadership roles in sustainable energy fields in the Arab region. We are very proud to manage this program for over 8 years. Now more than ever we see the tangible impact of our youth in supporting the region in its green recovery post COVID-19 pandemic.” says APSEY Program Manager, Ms. Noha Gamal.
Since its launch, around 79 intern from RCREEE member states have successfully completed the internship program. Following their intense six-month internships, APSEY Alumni return to the field serving energy sustainability in the region.
"We are extremely pleased to welcome this distinguished batch of Arab youth. We are confident that integrating at RCREEE’s projects will add to their knowledge and upscale their skills and experiences. We are most proud of APSEY Alumni – and sustainable energy ambassadors – who are still working the field either through joining international companies and organizations, like the United Nations organizations, or through launching their own projects and initiatives. “says RCREEE Acting Executive Director, Dr. Maged Mahmoud.
He adds” We appreciate all the support we have been receiving from our partners “OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID)” over the past six years. Arab governments have invested a lot in these young promising calibers preparing them to be the future energy leaders. We aspire to continue supporting these leaders so they can leave their green print which will definitely benefit their societies, the region.”
Based on the strong belief of the importance of empowering youth for a sustainable future, OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) has co-financed APSEY ™ program since 2014. The support was extended in 2016 and later in 2018 for interns from Yemen, Sudan, Palestine, Djibouti, Mauritania, Somalia and Syria.
