SACREEE Mentorship Program - Call for Mentors 2020/2021

The SADC Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (SACREEE) is looking for regional and international mentors who are experienced professionals and entrepreneurs with proven and successful track records, and with the desire to give back to the society and contribute to diversity and inclusion in the renewable energy (RE) and energy efficiency (EE) sector. The focus areas are:

  1. RE and EE Entrepreneurship
  2. Water - Energy Food –nexus / productive use of energy
  3. Youth and women empowerment in energy

Objectives of SACREEE Mentorship program:

The objective of the SACREEE Mentorship Program is to support emerging entrepreneurs and junior professionals in the implementation of ideas, and further concretise plans to start/up-scale their enterprises or advance their professional careers. Moreover, the mentorship program should focus on knowledge sharing of the country/regional markets, financial issues, bureaucracies, and similar experiences. Below are some of the key points of the program to support the target group in their business or professional challenges: 

  1. Create the right matching between mentees and mentors to bring out potentials;
  2. Provide mentees with a personalised advice;
  3. Provide tools to fund own enterprise and turn an idea into business; and
  4. Offer practical information and advice on legal and procedural aspects, both related to their status in their respective countries and to local rules to start and manage a business.

As a mentor, you will get the opportunity to offer something valuable to junior professionals or entrepreneurs and thus expand your own knowledge through the mentees’ perspective. The Mentorship Program will contribute to personal and professional development for both the mentor and mentee, as well as, shaping the direction of future generations within their respective fields of expertise.

Features of the program:

Phase 1: Matching: the right synergy between the mentees and the mentors will be created. The matching criteria are as following: (a) Type of profession or business; (b) Duration of experience; (c) Country; and (d) Language proficiency.

Phase 2: Mentoring: Personalised one-to-one mentoring using virtual meetings platforms (e.g. Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Skype, ZOOM etc.), telephone conversations, face to face meeting etc.
