Pacific Regional Energy Assessment (PREA) 1992 - Volume 1 Overview

This report was prepared by the World Bank and in cooperation with The UNDP and ESCAP. The Pacific Regional Energy Assessment (PREA) reviews issues and options associated with energy development in the Pacific island countries. The Overview Report presents the findings and recommendations of regionwide interest emerging from an assessment of the energy sector in 12 PICs.

This report was prepared by S D Sharma, G J Duffy and J H Edwards of CSIRO Energy Technology for  the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) in Japan. The New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), an administration and implementation arm of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) in Japan has contracted CSIRO Energy Technology to undertake research on actual and potential renewable energy uptake in South Pacific countries.

The Economics of Renewable Energy for Rural Electrification in PICs

This report was prepared by Allison Woodruff for the Regional Energy Officials Meeting in the Cook Islands 2007. The case studies were chosen in order to reflect as wide a range of renewable technologies as possible in a variety of different Pacific island settings. These include O’ua Island, which is part of the Ha’apai Solar Electrification Project in Tonga; the Bulelavata Micro-Hydroelectric Project in the Solomon Islands; the Welagi and Vanua Balavu Coconut Biofuel Projects in Fiji; and the Mangaia Wind Project in the Cook Islands.

This report was done by George Wilkenfeld and Associates to the Forum Secretariat Energy Division. This study was commissioned by the Forum Secretariat Energy Division, to gather information needed to make decisions on the establishment of a labelling program on a regional (or sub-regional) basis.

Masters Thesis - Potentials of Coconut Oil As Diesel Substitute in Pacific Island Countries

This report was prepared by Gerhard Zieroth. The use of coconut oil as a substitute for diesel fuel is attracting increasing interest. This MSc thesis enhances the understanding of this technology and points out directions for its future application in the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) as well as other Pacific Island Countries. The research work was undertaken by the PIEPSAP project in cooperation with RWTH University in Aachen and it is based on a literature review and field data obtained in RMI and Fiji.
