ReCCAWA Annual Planning and Coordination Meeting Advances Regional Energy Cooperation

Praia, 27 January 2026 – The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) convened the ReCCAWA Annual Planning and Coordination Meeting in Praia, bringing together representatives from the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), and the ECOWAS Commission.

Held from 27 to 28 January 2026, the ReCCAWA session focused on reviewing implementation progress, strengthening coordination mechanisms, and discussing priorities for upcoming project phases under the ReCCAWA initiative. Discussions also highlighted the need to ensure strong alignment with ECOWAS regional energy and climate objectives.

In his remarks, the Executive Director of ECREEE, Mr. Gibson Obasi, acknowledged the strong commitment demonstrated by the partners and emphasized the importance of coordinated action in delivering sustainable development outcomes and advancing a just energy transition across ECOWAS Member States.

The meeting successfully prepared a consolidated work plan and budget for 2026 for the ReCCAWA program. Participants reached a common understanding on priority areas, including policy development, supply and demand stimulation, the establishment of a regional clean cooking database, and communication actions, while agreeing on timelines, responsibilities, and next steps to ensure coherent and impactful implementation in 2026. Mr. Santiago Omeno led the AECID team, while Mr. Jan Cloin led the RVO team.
