Another year has come to an end - and what a year it has been! The year 2022 has not been without obstacles to overcome, but there have also been many achievements culminating in the finalization of the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) Strategic Plan 2023-2027.
The vision of ECREEE, as set out in the Strategic Plan 2023-2027, is to facilitate universal access to reliable and affordable modern energy in ECOWAS Member States. This ambition is a contribution to the achievement of the third Pillar "a fully integrated and prosperous region" of the ECOWAS Vision 2050 "A fully integrated community of peoples in a peaceful, prosperous region with strong institutions and respect for fundamental rights and freedoms and striving for inclusive and sustainable development".
Specifically, the ECREEE's action is to support the intensification of infrastructure development and interconnectivity through increased availability and access to affordable energy services (renewable energy, energy efficiency, electricity, oil and fuel supply, energy mobility...).
In 2023, we will continue to make a positive impact in the West African region by moving towards sustainable energy for all through the implementation of programs and projects in renewable energy, energy efficiency and related areas. We also advocate for synergy between the various stakeholders in the West African region and at the international level to achieve SDG 7 "Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern for all" by 2030.
We are proud to annouce that we have received essential support from our donors and partners. We thank them warmly and look forward to their continued support in the implementation of the ECREEE Strategic Plan 2023-2027. We will continue to forge new partnerships that will help to scale up our work and consolidate our positive impact in providing access to sustainable energy services in the region with a special focus on people in rural and peri-urban areas.
To all actors involved in the development of renewable energies and the promotion of energy efficiency in West Africa, we reiterate our readiness to co-construct sustainable energy projects and programs.
We would like to recognize the leadership of the President of the ECOWAS Commission and the Commissioner in charge of Infrastructure, Energy and Digitization, which allows us to carry out our mission in the best conditions. We thank the Staff and Consultants of the ECREEE as well as our colleagues at the ECOWAS Commission and other Specialized Agencies, who have provided unparalleled support and on whom we will continue to rely for a significant contribution to the realization of the ECOWAS 2050 vision.
On behalf of the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), we would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy New Year 2023.
Francis Sempore - Executive Director of ECREEE
