A team from ECREEE led by the Executive Director of ECREEE Mr. Jean Francis Sempore, and representatives from the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), were in Lome, Togo, on a working visit to the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID) from 15 to 16 May 2023. The objective of the visit was to discuss the modalities for the establishment of the ECOWAS Renewable Energy Facility 2030 (“EREF2030”), a USD 75 million concessional finance facility to support small and medium sized renewable energy and energy efficiency (RE&EE) projects and businesses in rural and peri-urban areas of the ECOWAS member countries.
The governance of the facility will be finalized in a tripartite Agreement between EBID, ECREEE and GGGI and will provide grants and loans to key sectors including Clean Energy Mini Grids, Standalone and solar home systems, Waste-To-Energy projects, Clean cooking energy solutions, Water, Energy, Food Nexus, Energy Efficiency Projects
As part of the collaboration, ECREEE extended an invitation to EBID, and GGGI to participate in the 8th ECOWAS Sustainable Energy Forum (ESEF2023), scheduled to take place from 12- 13 October in Praia, Caba Verde, within the framework of the West Africa Energy Transition Week 2023 (WAETW2023).
