Call for applications: African Development Bank’s training program to strengthen African countries’ access to Green Climate Fund financing for sustainable energy projects

The African Development Bank has launched a training program to address the needs of African National Designated Authorities to access Green Climate Fund (GCF) financing for sustainable energy projects. The training will equip participants with the knowledge to develop and submit project concept notes and proposals. Securing GCF funding requires specialized knowledge and resources, and the training will enable African countries to gain the required skills and knowledge to access these funds. In addition, the training enhances opportunities to exploit renewable energy resources, which offer potential for clean and reliable electricity generation, thereby advancing critical climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts.

Targeting Africa-based experts with direct involvement in the design and/or implementation of sustainable energy projects, the training will provide information on the Fund’s project lifecycle and strategies to develop a pipeline of funding-ready sustainable energy projects. The program will cover a broad range of sustainable energy technologies addressing region- and country-specific challenges and opportunities. Participants will delve into the specific components of a GCF funding proposal. Participants will examine hands-on case studies of successful GCF proposals and concept notes to further complement the training.

The training, 28 hours in total, will be delivered online over a period of three weeks in July and August 2021. There will be two sessions, one in English and one in French, both with up to 40 participants. Exact dates and times will be communicated to selected participants. The deadline for applications is 9 July 2021, at 11:59 GMT.
