This survey report was prepared by Thomas Lynge Jensen, UNDP Pacific Centre for the Government of Cook Islands. The energy survey component can be such an important project design tool; one of the methods used to determine the size of an electrification project is to carry out a needs survey of the prospective recipients of the project. The survey was carried out over three days.
The energy survey in Rakahanga, including the household survey questionnaire and this report, has benefitted significantly from recent United Nations (UN) supported household surveys in Vanuatu, Fiji, the Solomon Islands, Samoa and the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI). In addition the format of this report follows the format of The Port Olry Biofuel Project in Vanuatu - Household Survey Report, which the author prepared in September 2010.
The costs associated with the Rakahanga energy survey were covered by: i) Energy Division, Ministry of Infrastructure and Planning, Government of the Cook Islands; ii) Rakahanga Island Administration; and iii) the UNDP Pacific Centre (PC).
